Bachelor's in Industrial Management, Master of Science (Operations Research)

Jorge is a PhD candidate of System Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His research activities are focused on applying agent-based models on three major areas: 1) financial markets to study the self-regulation capability of artificial markets with interacting investors and credit rating agencies; 2) the efficiency of road networks when users have access to real-time information and are able to adjust their behavior to current conditions; 3) failure probability of nuclear waste containers due to microbial- and chemical-driven corrosion.

To understand the nature of sustainable biophysical/economic systems. To determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for sustainability. To explore the trade-off between sustainability and social or economic justice. To investigate the application of the MEP and/or the MEPP to economic systems, or agent-based models of economic systems.

Ph.D. (Economics & Business), University of Groningen (NL), M.Sc. (Industrial Engineering), University of Los Andes (Colombia), B.Sc. (Industrial Engineering), Universidad Javeriana (Colombia)

I am a computational social scientist, engineer, and systems researcher. I work in several aspects of modelling the dynamics of organisational, economic and social systems. I am interested in the link between micro-level rules, structural interdependence and macro-level outcomes in a variety of settings (e.g., organisational dynamics, industry evolution, competitive spatial location, agricultural markets). I am also interested in the use of computational models for better policy design (policy modelling).

M.Tech

I develop simulation tools for generating what-if scenarios for decision making. I predominantly use Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) technique as most of my simulations model complex systems. In some cases, I have extended existing tools with modifications to model the given system. Although the tools are meant for research purposes, I have followed industry friendly delivery mechanisms, such as unit-tests, automated builds and delivery on cloud platforms.

Anna Pagani Member since: Wed, Mar 10, 2021 at 10:01 AM

Anna Pagani is an architect and doctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Claudia R. Binder in the interdisciplinary laboratory for Human-Environment Relations in Urban Systems (HERUS) at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. In her PhD, she works closely with tenants, housing providers and practitioners to provide housing that is not only environmentally but also socioculturally sustainable.

Her research interests revolve around the relationship between the human and material components of the built environment, and more specifically on the introduction of a systems perspective to housing studies.

Amineh Ghorbani Member since: Tue, Aug 20, 2019 at 01:44 PM Full Member

Amineh Ghorbani is an assistant professor at the Engineering Systems and Services Department, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. She is also an affiliated member of the “Institutions for Collective Action” at Utrecht University. She obtained her M.Sc. in Computer Science (Artificial intelligence) from University of Tehran (Iran) (2009, honours) and her PhD from Delft University of Technology (2013, cum laude).

During her PhD, Amineh developed a meta-model for agent-based modelling, called MAIA, which describes various concepts and relations in a socio-technical system. This modelling perspective helped her develop a modelling paradigm that she refers to as institutional modelling.

Her current area of research is understanding the emergence and dynamics of institutions (set of rule organizing human society) using modelling. She is interested in how bottom-up collective action emerges and how institutions emergence and change within communities.

collective action
institutional emergence
evolution of institutions
community energy systems

Antônio Ralph Medeiros-Sousa Member since: Thu, Sep 19, 2019 at 09:43 PM Full Member

Antônio Sousa is a biologist with a background in medical entomology, disease ecology, statistical and computational modeling. Antônio has a Ph.D. (2018) and Master (2014) in Science from the School of Public Health at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Currently, he is a postdoctoral fellow in the same institution.

My research interest lies in the study of the transmission and dispersal dynamics of vector-borne diseases. I have been working on the development of statistical, mathematical and computational models to understand bioecology of mosquitoes and to predict the transmission dynamics of pathogens transmitted by these insects.
