Systems Science is an interdisciplinary program that involves multiple
academic units and reports to the Dean of Graduate Studies. The Program
emphasizes systems research and practice, with an academic focus on
complexity science, computational intelligence, computer modeling and
simulation, data mining, system control and optimization, and systems theory.
Research and practice are interdisciplinary, making use of systems ideas and
methods to address complex scientific, technological, organizational and
societal problems. Of particular interest are problems associated with
sustainability and biomedical systems. The System Science web site is at
www.pdx.edu/sysc.
The ideal candidate will strengthen both the breadth and depth of the
Program’s curriculum and research. The new hire is expected to have and
maintain a strong research record (including significant publications), to seek
external funding, contribute to current SYSC research, take a leadership role
in PSU’s growing effort in multi-discipline problem solving, and develop
significant relationships within the urban community surrounding the PSU
campus. The new hire is also expected to develop and teach graduate courses
on material consistent with the Program’s academic focus, and to serve as
dissertation advisor for Program students. An earned doctorate in an
appropriate field is required. The academic rank is open, including the
possibility of Program leadership, depending on the applicant’s background
and experience.
