The Department of Geography of the University of Namur (located approx. 1 hour from Brussels) is hiring a postdoctoral researcher to work in the framework of the MAPPY project funded by AXIS/JPI-Climate (http://www.jpiclimate.eu/AXIS/Activities/MAPPY). This project studies the interactions between pollinators, plant diversity and crop yields, under climate and land use change. The hired researcher will continue the development of an agent-based model (ABM) to derive high-resolution land use and land cover change scenarios for the future at the scale of the studied regions located in five European countries.
Candidates must hold a PhD in geography, ecology, bioinformatics, bioengineering, ecological or environmental economics, or equivalent topics. They should have strong computer skills and be familiar with object-oriented programming, data modelling & integration, and agent-based modelling in particular. Knowledge of JAVA is a real plus. They should have an interest in environmental issues and sustainable development. Candidates should also have good abilities to work in a team, whilst capable of strong autonomy and creativity.
The offer:
A postdoctoral position for 12 months (full time, ca. €2600 net per month)
Start date is ideally October 2021 (to be discussed with the candidate)
The candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers at UNamur and will also work within an international research consortium.
To be eligible, candidates should have spent no more than 24 months in Belgium in the three years preceding October 2021 and must have obtained their doctoral degree within the last eight years if this is their first post-doctoral fellowship.
