Postdoc Opportunity at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities: Agroecosystem Modeling


One Postdoctoral Researcher Position is available through the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering (BBE) at University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. The initial appointment is 12 months, with possibility of renew upon performance and funding availability.

Position summary: The successful candidate will apply state-of-the-art cropping system modeling approaches to explore various topics related to food security and sustainable agricultural production under climate change, with a goal to improve agroecosystem management at various scale. Specific responsibilities include: calibrate cropping system model (e.g. Ecosys) for multi-objective application; developing new modules for to meet application demands; developing and implementing data assimilation algorithms to integrate multi-source remote sensing observations into the crop model; conducting local, regional or global simulations; preparing project reports and peer-reviewed publications; and communicating research at professional meetings.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in quantitative disciplines such as earth and atmospheric science, environmental science, remote sensing, ecology, math and statistics, or any other closely related fields. The Applicant is expected to have a wide range of skills related to earth system and crop modeling: (1) strong programing experience (e.g., Python, Fortran, or C++ in the Linux environment) and be familiar with supercomputing or big data analytical systems; (2) development and testing of numerical representations of complex processes suitable for site, regional, and global scale models; (3) application of state-­of-­the­-art parameter uncertainty and calibration methods; (4) oral communication and scientific writing.

Starting Date: Ideal starting time is Sep 1, 2019, but can be flexible. The position is open till filled.
