Increasingly, studies are warning that the risk of flooding is rapidly rising due to the overlapping effects of climate change and fast urbanization. While different coping strategies are currently debated at different levels, i.e. politicians, authorities, planners and individual households among others, decision-making is hampered by multiple scientific knowledge gaps and the lack of effective measures at the local level. To discuss the details of whether, where and how local people can enhance their resilience to flood risks, we invite participation in the
International workshop on
Flood Risk and Resilience at Community Level
in hybrid format at LMU Munich
on 01-02 December 2022
The workshop is financially supported by the Sino-German Mobility Program “FReCom” and is open to international participants. It aims to facilitate the exchange between researchers from multiple disciplines on the current state of flood risk and resilience studies. For the participation, submission of a research abstract is required, which must be in English and discuss one or more of the following questions (but not limited to):
1. What is the current research status of flood risk-resilience relations?
2. How are the flood risk-resilience systems performed in major urban cases, e.g. in developing Asia?
3. Which approaches, models, and tools are available to integrate studies of flood risk and social resilience at various scales?
4. What are the feedbacks between flood impacts, coping measures, and resilience enhancement?
5. What is the latest scientific knowledge on practical solutions to build resilience, particularly at the local community scale?
6. What are the possible future scenarios for enhancing flood resilience at community level?
7. What and how do modeling approaches contribute to understanding the flood risk-resilience feedback?
8. What are the possible tipping points and transformation pathways towards a flood resilient development?
Submissions shall include author information, contact details, title of presentation, abstract of 300-500 words. Please submit via this link: https://survey.ifkw.lmu.de/flood-resilience-at-community/ by September 30, 2022. Submissions will be evaluated by the organization committee. You will be informed by October 10, 2022, whether your abstract has been accepted for a presentation.
The organization committee will select two outstanding submissions from young researchers (PhD students and Postdoc researchers) as keynote talks and will cover their expenses for attending the workshop. For this, submission of a full paper is required (published after 01.01.2020 or full manuscript in working). There is also a possibility to reimburse travel expenses for other presenters to attend the workshop in person, on a case-by-case basis and depending on the availability of funding resources. All registered participants will receive a certificate confirming and acknowledging their contributions.
