From pattern to process
Currently, geoinformatics is undergoing a fundamental shift from handling static spatial data (‘pattern’) to the processing of highly dynamic spatio-temporal data (‘process’). Spatial Simulation is a generative modelling approach that aims at understanding the formation of spatial patterns. It thus complements descriptive (big data) analysis of spatio-temporal patterns.
Scope of the session
We invite contributions that advance the state-of-art in spatial simulation modelling, including (but not limited to):
* approaches based on cellular automata, agent-based models, individual-based models, microsimulation, or spatial system dynamics,
* applications of spatial simulation models in various domains, including ecology, landscape ecology, conservation biology, population dynamics, social network models, urban geography, pedestrian modelling, or transport modelling,
* hybrid models that integrate multiple modelling methods,
* participatory spatio-temporal modelling,
* dynamic geo-visualisation of simulation results,
* explorative model analysis and validation.
Contributions
Contributions can either be submitted as full paper, extended abstract or poster. Authors of accepted full papers and Extended Abstracts are invited to present and discuss their papers (15’+5’) in the special session. Authors of accepted posters are invited for a lightning talk (5’). Full papers and extended abstracts will be published in the GI-Forum Journal (Open Access).
Deadline for the submission of full papers and extended abstracts: 1st February 2017
